The Eichenberg tunnel is a 1,157 m long railway tunnel on the high-speed line from Hanover to Würzburg . It crosses the Hildesheim forest and is the second northernmost tunnel on the route.

The tunnel lies between the districts of Hönze (distance approx. 1,500 m), Möllensen (approx. 800 m), Sibbesse (approx. 500 m) and Petze (approx. 600 m).

course

The gradient rises continuously in the tunnel towards the south with 12.482 per thousand. In the tunnel, the route initially runs in a straight line and in a southerly direction into a left curve.

The northern tunnel portal is located in the Beustertal ( route km 34.9 ( 52 ° 5 ′ 21.5 ″  N , 9 ° 53 ′ 19.3 ″  E )), the southern portal at km 36.1 ( 52 ° 4 ′ 47, 4 "  N , 9 ° 53 '41"  E ).

The tube passes through layers of the Middle and Lower Buntsandstein and lies below the groundwater level for almost its entire length. The maximum ridge coverage is 56 m.

In front of the north portal is an incision around 650 in length. After a dam, the Escherberg tunnel follows in a northerly direction . After a roughly 220 m long cut, a short dam and another cut, the 332 m long Eggebergtunnel follows south .

The structure is around 800 m long in the area of the community of Diekholzen.

history

planning

The current route between Hanover and Kassel was decided in 1976 (so-called variant III ). In 1976 and 1977, a variant IV was discussed at times after geologists questioned the feasibility of variant III in the Hildesheim forest. This variant IV would have swiveled from the current route in a westerly direction at Sarstedt and would have circumnavigated the Hildesheim Forest parallel to the current route in an approximately four-kilometer tunnel between Nordstemmen in the north and Eddinghausen in the south, in order to then approach the realized route and then to the north from Sibbesse to reach. After exploratory drilling in 1976 and 1977 confirmed the feasibility of variant III, this variant was introduced into spatial planning by the Federal Railroad in 1977.

In the planning phase, the northern section of the tunnel (km 35.720 - district boundary Diekholzen / Sibbesse - northward) was in the planning approval section  1.4 of the new line. The southern part of the tunnel was assigned to section 1.5. The southern 360 m of the tunnel are in the area of the Hönze district (municipality of Sibbesse). At the end of 1982, the tunnel with a length of 1157 m was planned.

construction

The tunnel was driven in a southerly direction starting from the north portal. First of all, the dome was completely constructed before the bench and floor excavation began. In July 1986 the excavation work was completed. The inner shell is made 35 cm thick over the entire length. The construction cost, including the neighboring Eggebergtunnel, is 45 million D-Marks (23 million euros ).

The shell work was completed in July 1987.
