Eichorst Island is a small island in the Palmer Archipelago west of the Antarctic Peninsula . It lies between Shortcut Island and the Surge Rocks off the southwest coast of Anvers Island . Its western end is divided into three parts, which appear like three separate cliffs when the water level is high .
The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named the island in 1975 after Marvin H. Eichorst (1905–1985), an amateur radio operator from Glenview , who between 1964 and 1972 maintained radio communications to the Palmer station .
