The Eider-Nordsee-Schule is a community school in Wesselburen , Dithmarschen district . The pupils stay in the same class from the fifth grade up to their respective school leaving certificate in the tenth grade - either the first general school leaving certificate or the intermediate school leaving certificate . The number of pupils is around 300. The Friedrich-Elvers-Schule , a special needs school, has a branch on the premises of the Friedrich-Hebbel-Schule.

history

The school was founded in 1912 as a middle school for students from Wesselburen and the surrounding villages. After the National Socialists came to power, it was renamed the Adolf Bartels School, a name that it lost again in the early 1960s due to an order from the Schleswig-Holstein Ministry of Culture. In addition to the then nameless secondary school , a secondary school was established in the 1970s , the Hebbel School (named after the playwright Friedrich Hebbel , who was born in Wesselburen ), and both schools were finally combined to form the Friedrich Hebbel School. Since 2009 the school has been a regional school , which means that in the fifth and sixth school years, secondary and secondary school students were taught together. It has been a community school since 2014 . The pupils stay in the same class from the fifth grade up to their respective school leaving certificate (either first general school leaving certificate or middle school leaving certificate ).

In 2019 the school was renamed Eider-Nordsee-Schule .

building

Listed building from 1952
Former gym from 1912, today all-day care takes place there.
New building

The school consists of several buildings that were constructed over several decades in the 20th century. The oldest building is the former gymnasium from 1912, which is now used for all-day care. A two-story brick building with a hipped roof from 1950–1952 is under monument protection . The building was built according to plans by the architect Werner Lorenzen from Heide , who continued to build seamlessly in the style of the 1930s and 1940s.

In addition, several extensions and new buildings were added in the 1960s and 1970s. The latest building is the multi-purpose hall from the 1970s. From 2015, the buildings were extensively renovated. For this purpose, the new buildings from the 1960s / 1970s were demolished and replaced by more contemporary buildings.

The school association sued in the 1990s against the protection status as a monument, but finally lost in 1997 before the Higher Administrative Court of Schleswig against the state authority for monument protection. The state authority argued with the persistent value of the monument, since the building was noticeably conservative and deliberately continued the building tradition of National Socialism in Dithmarschen into the 1950s.

Kinderwattspiele

Since 2010, eighth and ninth graders from the Eider North Sea School have been organizing children's watt games in the Wadden Sea once a year in Wesselburenerkoog for third grade students from all over Dithmarschen in cooperation with the National Park Office in Tönning .

Glasshouse

The school has been running a greenhouse since 1991/1992 . The house belonged to a nursery that ceased operations. Students and teachers repaired the house in 1992. Since then, practical lessons in natural science and technical subjects have taken place there.

Others

In 2015 the film Potato Salad - Don't Ask! Filmed here by Freshtorge and Michael David Pate .
