Michael David Pate (born February 22, 1980 in Heide ) is a German film director , film producer and screenwriter .

Life

Since 1995, Pate has been making private and small films with his brother Miguel Angelo Pate, thereby teaching himself the craft of film autodidactically. In 2010, together with Jens Krogmann, he founded the Projekt Kino eV association to promote young regional filmmakers and supported film productions as an author, co-author, screenwriter, small actor or 2nd unit director.

While working on his directorial debut Like Like (Film) , Pate founded the production and distribution company Take 25 Pictures together with Hauke ​​Schlichting. The film received press attention and was shown mainly at film festivals before it was shown on over 100 German screens in October 2014. Tobias Schenke and Isabella Vinet played the leading roles .

Pate gained greater fame in 2015 with the movie Potato Salad - Don't Ask! which was voted “Worst Film Ever Worldwide” on IMDb . In the movie, well-known German YouTubers such as Torge Oelrich , Bianca Heinicke , Simon Desue , Y-Titty or Dagi Bee appeared as actors. a. also prominent actors like Otto Waalkes , Martin Schneider , Wolfgang Bahro and Jenny Elvers . The production and marketing of the film was completely independent, like its predecessor, i.e. without any funding or major distribution. Nevertheless, it was evaluated in around 500 cinemas in German-speaking countries and grossed over 3.4 million euros with almost 500,000 viewers.

In 2016, Pate shot a pilot documentary for Die Wracktaucher , which was successfully broadcast on DMAX . Due to the audience quotas, he was commissioned with a season. He also worked in the production of the drama The Last Meal , with u. a. Bela B. Felsenheimer and Michael Degen in supporting roles, in addition to u. a. Ralf Möller as co-producer as well as assistant director at the side of director and friend Florian Frerichs.

In 2017 Pate shot his first commissioned film Heilstätten ( 20th Century Fox ), produced by Till Schmerbeck . Godfather wrote the script based on a template by Ecki Ziedrich . Heilstätten was the first pure German horror genre film to receive state film funding and opened in German cinemas on February 22, 2018. In the leading roles Sonja Gerhardt , Tim Oliver Schultz , Nilam Farooq , Lisa-Marie Koroll , Timmi Trinks and Emilio Moutaoukkil .

In 2018, Pate began publishing some of his novels as e-books . Among other things was Who Knocks? 2019 bestseller in the category "psychic horror" on Amazon Kindle .

In 2019, Godfather shot Potato Salad 3 - The Musical (theatrical release on January 30, 2020) and again brought mainly influencers in front of the camera with his independent company Take 25 Pictures, this time with a focus on singing. Jasmin Wagner , Lea Mirzanli and Nicole Cross , among others, played some of the leading roles.

Godfather lives with his wife and children near Heide in Schleswig-Holstein.
