description

Single flower clover ( Trifolium uniflorum )

The single-flowered clover is a very changeable, lawn- or cushion-forming, perennial plant . Its stems prostrate, short-limbed and 1 to 5 centimeters high. The leaves are tripartite and stalked. The petiole is 1 to 7 inches long and hairless or glabrous. The leaflets are 4 to 10 millimeters long, rounded to ovoid, blunt to pointed, clearly visibly veined and dentate. The stipules are broadly triangular, membranous and have a long awl tip.

The flowers are 12 to 25 millimeters long, white and cream to purple in color. They are located on 1 to 7 millimeter long stems and are arranged in one to three-flowered, axillary heads. The calyx tube is hairy or hairy, 6 to 7 millimeters long and longer than the flower stalks. The calyx teeth are roughly the same, narrow-lanceolate and shorter than the calyx tube. The flag is curved upwards and usually longer than the shuttle and wing. The pod is linear, pointed, hairy and contains three to ten seeds.

Flowering time is from March to July.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 16 or 32.
