A night like any other is a documentary by DEFA studio for newsreels and documentaries from 1957 .

action

In front of the HO department store on Alexanderplatz, the crew, consisting of three Berlin people's police officers, await the documentary filmmakers in their EMW Toni 14 radio car. The head of operations, a main sergeant, introduces himself and his comrades and explains the request to give an insight into a normal shift of a radio patrol. In words and pictures, reference is made to the danger to young people in the GDR from so-called border cinemas in West Berlin. The negative influence of the fairgrounds is also mentioned. The conversations are repeatedly interrupted by incoming radio messages from the Presidium of the German People's Police in Keibelstrasse, whose radio center is also shown in the film. The incoming orders are everyday work for the police officers. Two car thieves who had stolen a car on Schönhauser Allee are tracked and arrested. After the emergency call from the parents of a seriously ill child, this is brought to the Friedrichshain hospital with a special signal. The route runs through the entire Mitte district. Curious things are also shown, such as a drunk man who wants to sleep off his intoxication in a telephone booth. In the event of a traffic accident, the comrades take over the initial safety measures at the scene of the accident until they are ready for a traffic accident. Of course, shortly before the end of their shift, the police officers do not forget to ask again at the hospital about the child's health.
