The Einschwielige tongue-leaved ( Serapias lingua ) is a plant from the family of orchids (Orchidaceae).

description

The single-tailed tongued tendon is a perennial plant , which has a sitting and two underground, long-stalked tubers . The stem is 10 to 35 centimeters high and has four to eight narrowly lanceolate leaves .

The loose inflorescence consists of fewer than eight flowers . The sepals are gray-purple, pointed and bent together. The lip is 22 to 29 millimeters long and divided in two across. There is a noticeable purple callus at its base. The front section is 18 millimeters long, 12 millimeters wide, pinkish purple to yellowish or whitish colored, tongue-shaped and slightly hairy. The rear section is hidden and has purple side lobes.

The flowering period extends from March to June.

Occurrence

The single-tailed tongue tendril occurs from the Mediterranean area to western France. The species grows in forests, garrigues and grasslands.

Systematics

One can distinguish several subspecies:

  • Common tongue tendon ( Serapias lingua subsp. Lingua ): It occurs in the Mediterranean region in Portugal, Spain, the Balearic Islands, North Africa, France, Corsica, Sardinia, Italy, Sicily, Dalmatia, Albania, Greece and Crete, in the Aegean and in Turkey before. It thrives at altitudes between 0 and 1500 meters above sea level.
  • Schmalkronblättriger tongue-leaved ( Serapias lingua subsp. Stenopetala (Maire & T.Stephenson) Maire & Weiller , Syn .: Serapias lingua var. Stenopetala (Maire & T.Stephenson) Maire ): It is endemic in northeastern Algeria and comes in light cork oak forests and wet meadows at altitudes between 0 and 100 meters above sea level.
  • Tunisian tongued tendon ( Serapias lingua subsp. Tunetana B. Baumann & H.Baumann ): It occurs in Tunisia at altitudes between 0 and 100 meters above sea level.
