The ice fish (Bovichtidae) live in cold and temperate waters of the southern hemisphere on the border with the Southern Ocean , in the seas around New Zealand , southern Australia and southern South America . Also in the fresh waters of Southeast Australia and Tasmania .

features

The fish are 9 to 80 centimeters long. Its mouth can be extended, the snout not very long. They have a single lateral line organ . The fish have two dorsal fins, one hard and one soft. Ploughshare and palatine bone are dentate.

Of the ten species , seven belong to the genus Bovichtus .
