Eisten is a village in the Sögel municipality in the Emsland district of Lower Saxony . Today it is part of the municipality of Sögel .

Geographical location
Eisten is located in the northeast of the district about 4 km south of Sögel. The district town of Meppen is about 21 km (as the crow flies) southwest of Eisten.
The Nordradde runs northwest of the village.

origin of the name
Around 1000 Eisten is mentioned as Astnun in the Corveyer Register. Astnun is made up of the basic word nun and the determiner ast . In ast is the ancient awist , sheepfold or farm for sheep breeding, and in its defining word the tribe aw , later au , a term that still occurs today for motherhood (Aue).
history
With the law to reorganize the communities in the areas of Leer and Aschendorf-Hümmling, the once independent village of Eisten was incorporated into the community of Sögel on January 1, 1973.
