Elías Regules (born March 21, 1861 in Montevideo , † November 4, 1929 there or November 6, 1929 ) was a Uruguayan medic, politician and writer.

Regules was born as the son of Elías Regules López de los Ríos and Manuela Uriarte López de los Ríos in the house of grandparents Juan Risso and Polonia Uriarte López de los Ríos in the "Calle Convención". The two parents from Rocha, who actually lived in Durazno, where they owned land in the area around the Arroyo Malbajar near the present-day town of Sarandí del Yí , were cousins ​​on their mother's side. In 1879 his school education ended with the Abitur (bachillerato). Regules began studying medicine in 1881, which he successfully completed on September 2, 1883 with the title of surgeon (médico-cirujano). Since March 12, 1885 he was medicine professor. On March 17 of the same year he was appointed Vice Dean of the Medical Faculty of the Universidad de la República . A little later, on April 11, 1885, he married Státira Molins Acosta y Lara. The six children Blanca, Elías, Tabaré, Sarandí, Selva and América come from this connection. On June 23, 1888, he was promoted to the position of dean of the faculty on an interim basis on behalf of Pedro Visca . He then finally held this office from August 2, 1889 to 1897. During this phase of life, among other things, his second play "Los Guachitos" was created in April 1894. On May 25, 1894, he and a group of friends founded the Sociedad Criolla , of which he was also the first president. Together with Javier de Viana , Antonio Lussich and Juan Escayola, he contributed to the publication El Fogón .

The doctorate Regules, member of the Partido Constitucional , belonged to the Consejo de Estado founded in February 1898 and then had a titular mandate as a member of the Cámara as representative of the Rocha department in the 20th legislative period from February 15, 1899 to February 14, 1902 de Representantes . The chamber affiliations for the Department Durazno in the 10th (February 15, 1868 to May 17, 1869) and 11 (May 7, 1875 to February 14, 1876) legislative periods, which are also attributed to him in the official parliamentary database, are apparently due to the related im Contradicting life data - to be assigned to another mandate holder with the same name. On July 31, 2013, the renaming of the previous bridge called "Brigadier General Venancio Flores" at kilometer point 273 of Ruta 14 over the Arroyo Malbajar to the name "Dr. Elías Regules" was the subject of a legislative initiative initiated by MP Carmelo Vidalín during the parliamentary session .
