El Apóstol (German for The Apostle ) is an Argentine cartoon from 1917 . It is considered to be the first full- length cartoon . The film was released on November 9, 1917. Quirino Cristiani did the work on the script, the direction and the animation . Many copies of the cartoon were destroyed in a fire in 1926 in the film studio of producer Federico Valle . Since that time, the film is considered for posterity lost .
Movie content
The film is a parody of the then President Hipólito Yrigoyen . The president is enabled by the power of the god Jupiter to throw lightning, which causes the city of Buenos Aires to go up in flames.
Production information
58,000 drawings were made for the film, which were also presented with the same number of frames . Some scenes are from Andrés Ducaud , who equipped the film with some special effects .
Because of its sharpness, the film had to be submitted to the Argentine authorities. So the original producers dropped out and Quirino Cristiani had to look for new producers.
The film was also shown in Europe.
