Don't forget the elephants is a full-length episode from the thirteenth and final season of the 2009 British television series Agatha Christie's Poirot, directed by Charles Palmer . It is the film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Agatha Christie from 1972.

action

The Willoughby Institute is a mental hospital . One night the caretaker discovers the clinic's former chief doctor in a tub, tied up and apparently drowned. It is clear to the investigating Inspector Beale that he must consult Hercule Poirot on the case. At the same time, Ariadne Oliver is asked by her sponsored child to explain the enigmatic suicide of their parents, which took place more than thirteen years ago. Ariadne is at a loss and describes the Poirot case. He is only moderately interested, as the case seems to have been resolved and the strange murder of the doctor keeps his mind on edge. He advises Ariadne to investigate on his own and to visit the people who were still alive and who were involved at the time (“Ask the elephants”). When Ariadne returns from her interrogations, however, the case is more puzzling than before, and it gradually dawns on Poirot that all events may be connected. However, there is still a long way to go before he succeeds in putting all the pieces of the puzzle together, because absolute madness and unconditional loyalty out of love were initially not on his bill.

Overview

Elephants Can Remember first aired in 2013 on UK broadcaster ITV. The film was shown on over 200 different television channels worldwide. These included channels from the United States (WGBH), Australia (ABC), Brazil (Globosat), France (France Televisions), Italy (Mediaset), Japan (NHK) and Russia (TV Center). David Suchet plays Hercule Poirot and Zoe Wanamaker plays Ariadne Olivier in the film. In Germany the film was released by Polyband as part of the Poirot - Collection 12. In addition, the film was re-released by Hachette. These brought some of the most famous Agatha Christie films out on DVD. The film has also been released on DVD in Australia and Great Britain.

criticism

Ben Lawrence from the Telegraph particularly praises the actors. Their representations would significantly increase the quality of the film. Suchet portrays the difficult role of Poirot superbly. In addition, it was wise to let Ariadne Oliver do the research. Her unconventional, vague, eccentric manner goes particularly well with Suchet's straightforward Poirot.

Barnaby Walter was a little disappointed with the film. The trailer is much darker, more exciting and radical than the film. The script and the directing are competent, but not very exciting. Walter gave the film three out of five points.

Sarah Dempster from the Guardian particularly praises the film's beautiful shooting.
