Electron (material)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The technical material electron is a magnesium alloy made of at least 90% magnesium and almost 10% aluminum , and zinc , tin and other alloy components can also be contained in small, different proportions .

properties

Elektron is available as cast and wrought alloys , which are characterized by good corrosion resistance , including against salt water. It was developed in 1908 by the Griesheim-Elektron chemical factory .

Electron melts at approx. 650 ° C and then burns in the presence of atmospheric oxygen in a strongly exothermic and glistening light (approx. 2200 ° C). The density is (depending on the composition) 1.8 g / cm³ and thus significantly below that of aluminum alloys.
