Element hydrogen

Element hydrogens are chemical compounds of elements of the periodic system with hydrogen . Depending on the type of chemical bond, a distinction is made between salt-like (hydrogen has an oxidation number of −1), metal-like (oxidation number 0) or covalent hydrogen elements (hydrogen has an oxidation number of +1).

Formally, when naming the hydrogen elements according to IUPAC ( International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry ), there is a limit between the V ( nitrogen group ) and the VI. Main group ( chalcogens ) drawn from the periodic table. The simple hydrogen compounds of the elements from main group V are called hydrides . The order of the element symbols in the empirical formulas sees the hydrogen in the second position before (NH 3 , PH 3 , AsH 3 , SbH 3 , BiH 3 ).

From the VI. Main group reverses the order in the empirical formulas (H 2 O, H 2 S, H 2 Se, H 2 Te). The compound names begin with the prefix hydrogen and end with oxide , sulfide , selenide or telluride .
