Elena (* 22. January 1988 as Elena Bongartz in Aachen ; since 2018 stage name Ada Brodie ) is a German songwriter , singer and pianist .

Education and private matters

Elena is David Garrett's sister . She was introduced to a wider audience in 2016 with her album Elena, produced by the Berlin music producer Kraans de Lutin , and the u. a. from Hamburg production team Madizin remixed song flight mode known as well as with a number of unplugged performances in spring 2017 as part of her brother David the tour.

Elena learned to play classical piano at the age of six and won a. a. at the age of 15 a 1st prize in the national competition Jugend musiziert in piano duo. At the age of 14 she sang for the first time solo in a big band concert; later she received jazz singing lessons from Sabine Kühlich .

After studying jazz and pop singing at the Maastricht Conservatory and completing a master's degree in cultural management at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater , she received a recording contract with the Deag Music label , after she recorded her first EP under the name Séraphine, but never wider had published.

Artistic development

Elena sings, raps and plays the piano. She also occasionally plays Moog bass, ukulele, and drums during her performances.

The Aachener Zeitung wrote about their first album: "Since the 80s, the connection between craftsmanship and unique musical expression [...] has seldom been fed with as much passion as on the 28-year-old's entry-level work." The album, on the other hand, is a bit like "girlie pop". While some critics rate the catchy character of the album positively, others see it as occasional excursions into pop hits. Overall, the first album can be located in the German-speaking soul / pop genre. In the summer of 2016 Elena played as a support for Katie Melua in addition to a small club tour .

Elena has been working as an independent artist since 2017; their style has become more jazzy and contains more rap / spoken word elements. The artist herself describes the album Shit of the bygone days as a mixtape; there was no producer, the album was created single-handedly. For this she received funding from the Music Initiative . In the run-up, she caused a sensation with her video Anger in the stomach , in which she raps in spoken word style only in cling film about "how tired she is that self-confident women are considered bitchy and because of their bums on some sexiness- Scale. "

In November 2018 she released an English-language jazz album under her new stage name Ada Brodie .

Elena works mainly as a studio singer and is u. a. several times on the album On the Move from January Leyk heard.
