Sabine Kühlich (born February 1, 1973 in Gera ) is a German modern jazz musician ( vocals , alto saxophone , clarinet , keyboards ). According to the Belgian radio, she is "one of the most talented jazz singers in Europe".

Live and act

Kühlich took piano lessons at the age of six and discovered the saxophone at the age of fifteen. First she studied psychology at the University of Würzburg from 1991 , but developed an enthusiasm for jazz during her studies and studied jazz saxophone as a guest at the University of Music Würzburg . In 1999 she moved to the Conservatory of Maastricht , and then to 2005 at the Conservatory of Amsterdam to study jazz singing and for six months during the Master's program in 2004 at the Manhattan School of Music composition and arranging with Dave Liebman , Michael Abene and Phil Markowitz . She formed her own band; Tours took her to Southeast Asia in 2003 and to Brazil in 2007. Since 2004 she has been touring Germany several times with Sheila Jordan . In 2008 she toured Sam Vloemans through Belgium and the Netherlands; with the guitarist Adam Rafferty she forms the duo Adam & Sabine and with Anne Czichowsky the group Lines for Ladies. On October 8, 2017, she and Samira Saygili sang the orchestral work “Wir sind Demokratie” composed by Peter Autschbach at the 6th Congress of the IG Bergbau, Chemie, Energie industrial union in front of 1,100 delegates.

Kühlich has been a lecturer at the Conservatorium van Maastricht since January 2006. In the Jakobshof jazz club in Aachen, she founded her own series Vocal Spot, which she has continued in Cologne since 2007; She also works with children in the “Jazz for Pänz” project.

Prizes and awards

Kühlich received second prize at the International Vocal Contest in Brussels in October 2007 and was also a finalist at the Leidse Jazz Award and the 20th Concour de la Chanson in Amsterdam. In 2008 she was awarded the 1st prize of the International Montreux Jazz Voice Competition at the Montreux Jazz Festival and also received an audience award. At the duo competition Voice and Guitar she was one of the winners with Adam Rafferty in 2010.
