Stefan Michalke

Stefan Michalke (* 1964 in Cologne ) is a German jazz musician ( piano , composition).

Michalke was initially musically influenced by his father, who played the piano and worked as an organist. He received classical piano lessons; first compositions and improvisations emerged. At first he played in various rock bands , but became increasingly interested in jazz. He studied jazz piano from 1988, first in Frankfurt with Mike Schönmehl, and between 1989 and 1994 at the Maastricht Conservatory .

He played compositions by Frank Zappa with the Tinsel Town Rebellion Band . As a jazz pianist, he went on concert tours to Eastern Europe, Asia, Brazil and the USA. He leads his own trio and quartet and performs in a duo with Christine Corvisier . He also toured several times with Sheila Jordan and accompanied Gerd Breuer , Manfred Leuchter , Sabine Kühlich , Petra Welteroth , Nina Leonards, Pia Fridhill and Ina Hagenau . In the TangoX group he explores the different nuances of tango music (CD Tango Motion ).

Michalke teaches at the Jülich Municipal Music School and performs regularly with his trio and guests at the Franz jazz club in Aachen .
