Eleonora Rossi Drago
Eleonora Rossi Drago (actually Palmira Omiccioli ; born September 23, 1925 in Genoa , † December 2, 2007 in Palermo ) was an Italian film actress .
Life
Rossi Drago was the daughter of a captain and one of his acquaintances, a Spaniard. Rossi Drago became a war bride and mother at the age of seventeen; she divorced her husband shortly after the war. She worked as a model and made her first acting experiences with ensembles in Liguria. In the Miss Italia election in 1947, she was a co-favorite, but was excluded from the competition due to her marriage and motherhood. She soon moved to Rome, where she made her film debut at the age of 24 in Mario Sequis Film Altura . Between 1949 and 1970 she took part in over 60 feature films. It was mainly known in Italy, France and Spain.
Her international films include The Pirates of the Caribbean (1949), David and Goliath (1960), Uncle Tom's Cabin (1965), The Bible (1966) and The Portrait of Dorian Gray (1970). A German production in which she could be seen was Harald Reinl's crime film The Carpet of Horror (1962).
If she played conventional roles in genre films at the beginning of her film career, she was able to show her skills in Giuseppe De Santis ' realistic dramas (after a first attempt ended after the screen tests) , whereby she was often dubbed. Films like Closed Curtains , The Friends and Under Slippery Skin show the dramatic possibilities of the dark-haired, slim actress. Over the years Rossi Drago has been referred to by the newspapers as one of the "great ladies of Italian cinema", provided material for reports on rhinoplasty and affairs with Amedeo Nazzari and Duke Cesare D'Acquarone, who was later murdered in Acapulco . The end of the 1950s to the middle of the following decade was the peak of Rossi Drago's career; numerous directors assured themselves of their cooperation in successful, sometimes artistically exceeding works. During this time she also recorded a few poems and short stories on record.
In 1966 Rossi Drago, disappointed by the kink in her film career, took on the role of Maria Stuart in a long photo novel series. In 1968 she was a lesbian on stage alongside Olga Villi . After a period of depression and her retirement from acting in 1971, two years later she married the President of the Sicilian Industry Association, Domenico La Cavera (1915-2011) and moved to Palermo. She died there 36 years later in December 2007.
