Eleonora d'Este (born July 4, 1515 in Ferrara , † July 15, 1575 ) was a noblewoman from the Duchy of Ferrara .

Life

Eleonora was the daughter of Alfonso I d'Este and his second wife Lucrezia Borgia . Her maternal grandfather was Pope Alexander VI. ; her uncle was Cesare Borgia , the Renaissance prince of the Borgia family . The dukes of Ferrara named their first daughter Eleonora in honor of their paternal grandmother: Eleonora of Aragón (* June 22, 1450 - October 11, 1493), who married Ercole I. d'Este, Duke of Ferrara and daughter of Ferdinand I. was the King of Naples .

Eleonora lost her mother at the age of four, and her father Alfonso married his long-time lover, Laura Dianti. Eleonora entered the convent of Corpus Domini and after her death she was buried next to her mother Lucrezia in the monastery church in Ferrara in Via Pergolato No. 4. Eleonora was the only daughter who survived her parents.
