Elfriede Strnad

Elfriede Strnad (born February 8, 1890 in Augsburg , † September 4, 1960 in Klosterneuburg ) was a German social worker and Froebel teacher.

Live and act

Elfriede was the second of five children of the engineer Ferdinand Strnad and his wife Marina, b. Little room. Soon after their birth, the family moved to Berlin. There Strnad attended a private school and then a secondary school for girls. This was followed by further training at the commercial college and at the women's social school founded by Alice Salomon . Because of her outstanding achievements, she was given a teaching position at the Pestalozzi-Fröbel-Haus and in 1915 took over the management of the information center for young children at the Berlin “Central Institute for Education and Teaching”. In 1924 Strnad went to the Hamburg-based "Froebel Seminar" as a lecturer. At the same time, she took over the editing of the specialist magazine Kindergarten , which she edited until 1938.

After the collapse of the Nazi dictatorship, she was instrumental in founding the “Pestalozzi-Froebel Association” and was still actively involved in publishing. from 1950 to 1953 she was the editor of the "Sozialpädagogischen Blätter". In 1950 Strnad retired for health reasons. She died while staying with her sister in Klosterneuburg near Vienna.
