Samura Kamara

Samura Matthew Wilson Kamara (born April 30, 1951 in Kamalo ) is a Sierra Leonean economist and politician of the All People's Congress (APC). He was foreign minister of his country from 2012 to the beginning of 2018 and previously finance minister from 2009. Between 2007 and 2009 Kamara was governor of the Bank of Sierra Leone .

He was a candidate in the 2018 presidential election after being named as his desired successor by President Ernest Koroma on October 15, 2017 . In the runoff election that had become necessary, he lost to Julius Maada Bio on March 31 .

Kamara is a devout Christian and belongs to the Loko ethnic group . He holds a Masters (1980) and PhD (1986) degrees from the University College of North Wales and a B. Sc. from the University of Sierra Leone ( Fourah Bay College ) in Economics (1972).
