Elguja Khokrishvili

Elguja Khokrishvili ( Georgian ელგუჯა ხოკრიშვილი Elgudscha Chokrishvili ); (Born May 24, 1973 in Tbilisi ) is a Georgian scientist . Since spring 2018 he has been his country's ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany and head of the embassy in Berlin .

Education and career

After attending school in his home country Khokrishvili went to Germany and studied at the University of Potsdam Economics . Here he made his bachelor's degree from 1998–2002 , but immediately went on to study at the same institute, for which he obtained a Master of Business and Economics in 2004 . After completing his studies, Elguja Khokrishvili became a research assistant and doctoral candidate at the Department of Public Finance at this institution . In 2008 received his doctorate he here for Doctor of Economic and Social Sciences on the theme "Good Taxation and the redesign of the income and profit taxation in Georgia" . Afterwards he became project coordinator for several projects - still at the University of Potsdam -, among others on the topics: "Reform of the tax reform system: Sustainable tax policy in Georgia" and "Capital markets, banking and the public sector - exchange of experiences in politics for transition countries" .

At the beginning of the 2010s Elguja Khokrishvili took on scientific tasks in the field of macroeconomics at the Free University of Berlin . For a short time he was a visiting professor at the State Ilia University in Tbilisi .

From 2012, Khokrishvili took on senior positions and ministerial posts in Georgia, for example head of the Municipal Development Fund of Georgia (MDF), Minister for Regional Development and Infrastructure 2012-2014; Minister of Environment and Natural Resource Protection in Georgia 2014.

He was a diplomat posted to the Embassy of Georgia in the Federal Republic of Germany, where Khokrishvili initially from 2015 worked as a Counselor I. (2015) until January 2018 Ambassador designated was. Elguja Khokrishvili has been the extraordinary and plenipotentiary Ambassador of Georgia to the FRG since March 2018. He speaks the foreign languages Russian , German and English and has already published more than 15 publications , including monographs , commentaries and textbooks in Georgian, German and English.

Khokrishvili is married, has a son and lives with his family in Berlin.
