Elias Herlitz

Elias Herlitz (* around 1566 in Zeitz ; † February 6, 1615 in Stralsund ) was a German organist , composer and writer.

Life

Elias Herlitz was the son of Zeitz councilor and treasurer Andreas Herlitz. After attending school in Zeitz, he began studying at the University of Leipzig in 1582 , and in 1586 he moved to the University of Greifswald . In 1591 he was referred to as Collega in Tribsees . In the same year he got a job as organist at the Nikolaikirche in Stralsund , where he worked until the end of his life.

His brothers were the Greifswald mathematician David Herlitz and the Stralsund cantor Andreas Herlitz (1565–1623).

Works

Elias Herlitz wrote the school comedy "Musicomastix", which was printed in Stettin in 1606 by Joachim Rhete, the son of Georg Rhete . This was found in 1930 by the musicology seminar in Greifswald and successfully performed again in 1931 at the Greifswald City Theater.
