Elias Rahal
Elias Rahal SMSP (born April 14, 1942 Ras-Baalbek in Lebanon ) has been the incumbent Archbishop of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church of Baalbek in Lebanon since June 28, 2004 .
Life
Elias Rahal was ordained a priest on June 28, 1970 and is a religious priest of the Melkite Paulists . Rahal studied at the Pontifical Lateran University in Rome and received his doctorate from Sargessa University in Furn-El-Shebak (Lebanon). iur.can (Doctor of Canon Law ).
At the Synod of Bishops of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church from June 22nd to 26th, 2004 Rahal was elected Archbishop of Baalbek to succeed Cyrille Salim Bustros . This choice was approved by Pope Benedict XVI. on June 28, 2004 to and the Patriarch of Antioch Gregory III. Laham BS consecrated him a bishop on July 25 of that year. As co-consecrators the assisted archbishops Cyrille Salim Bustros SMSP and Jean Mansour SMSP. Rahal was a participant in the Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops on the Middle East in October 2010 .
Works
In 2007 the Pontifical Lateran University published the doctoral thesis written by Elias Rahal in French : “Le Synode de l'Eglise Grecque Melkite Catholique tenu a Jerusalem en 1849 etude historique, theologique et canonique (Pontifica universitas lateranensis, Theses ad doctoratum in iure canonico) ".
