Elila Mena

Elila Mena (born April 7, 1918 in Santo Domingo , † February 7, 1970 in New York City ) was a Dominican pianist and music teacher .

Mena took her first piano lessons from her father, the composer Luis Emilio Mena . She continued teaching with María Lamarche , Manuel Rueda and Nicolás Calderón and was professor of piano at the Liceo Musical de Santo Domingo from 1931 to 1944 . She also taught at the Conservatorio Nacional de Música .

As a concert pianist she performed works by Bach , Rachmaninow , Tchaikovsky , Liszt and Rivera with the Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional . She was also known as a chamber musician . On the record Recuerdos de infancia she recorded piano pieces by her father, the record Música de Luis Rivera she recorded in a duo with Vicente Grisolía .
