Elin Pelin ( Bulgarian Елин Пелин , formerly Novoselzi / Bulgar. Новоселци) is a city in western Bulgaria . The city is the administrative center of the municipality of the same name in the center of Sofia Oblast . Elin Pelin is located in the Sofia plain about 24 km southeast of the Bulgarian capital Sofia . In the north the city borders on the southern slopes of the Balkan Mountains and in the southeast on the Sredna Gora Mountains .
Today the city bears the name of the writer Elin Pelin .
A number of Thracian , Roman and Byzantine ruins and finds from the area around Elin Pelin testify to settlement since ancient times. A Slavic settlement that was founded in the Middle Ages during the Bulgarian Empire and existed until the fall of Bulgaria under Ottoman rule was also discovered.
