Elis Wilhelm Håstad (born January 18, 1900 in the parish of Odensala, today in the municipality of Sigtuna , † May 7, 1959 in Uppsala ) was a Swedish political scientist , editor, Landshövding and politician .

Life

Håstad's parents were the farmer Johan Wilhelm Andersson and Karolina Augusta Jansson. He married Karin Wilhelmina Håstad (1907–1984) on August 1, 1935. In 1943 the couple had their son Torgny Wilhelm . He himself died at the age of 59 and is buried in Uppsala Old Cemetery.

After graduating from school, Håstads devoted himself to journalism and active sports, especially football, for five years. During this time he also held various positions as a functionary.

Elis studied political science from 1923. In 1933 and 1934 he stayed in Switzerland, where he obtained his doctorate. A comparable work on the Swiss system of government had not yet appeared. Various critics such as Gunnar Heckscher or Herbert Tingsten regretted that the work had only been published in Swedish . His main contribution to Swedish political science was an unfinished and unpublished master's thesis (1931) on the work of the Swedish cabinet.

In 1948 he completed his habilitation at Stockholm University with a thesis on Swiss democracy . He had been a member of parliament for the Moderata samlingspartiet since 1941 and Landshövding in the Uppsala province from 1957 until his death .
