Elisabeth Alphonsa Maria Eppinger (born September 9, 1814 in Niederbronn in Alsace ; † July 31, 1867 there) was a Catholic founder of the order and is venerated as a blessed in the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Elisabeth Eppinger was born as the first of 11 children to a German-speaking family of farm workers. From early childhood, she was drawn to a life in the reality of God. She was convinced that God loves everyone and wants everyone to be happy. She dedicated her life to helping the poor, the elderly and the sick. On August 28, 1849, with the support of Johannes David Reichard, the Catholic pastor of her hometown Bad Niederbronn (Alsace) and the approval of the Strasbourg Bishop Andreas Räß , she founded the Congregation of the Sisters of the Divine Redeemer (Niederbronn Sisters) as mother Alfons Maria . In 1854 the community was recognized by the French state. In 1866, a year before the death of the founder, it was confirmed by Pope Pius IX.

In the beatification process for Alphonsa Maria Eppinger, Pope Benedict XVI promulgated . on December 19, 2011 the decree on the heroic virtues of Elisabeth Eppinger and thus laid the basis for a beatification. As the final requirement for beatification, Pope Francis confirmed on January 26, 2018 a miracle attributed to her intercession. She was beatified on September 9, 2018 in Strasbourg Cathedral .
