Elisabeth Büttner (film scholar)

Elisabeth Büttner (born December 30, 1961 in Würzburg ; died February 28, 2016 in Vienna ) was a German film scholar .

Life

Elisabeth Büttner studied theater and film studies, German and linguistics in Vienna and Berlin and received her doctorate from the Free University of Berlin. She taught at various universities and institutions and was a co-founder of the cooperative "Das Kino CO-OP" in Vienna.

In 2007 Büttner was appointed to the first Austrian professorship for Theory of Film at the Institute for Theater, Film and Media Studies at the University of Vienna . Her two-volume history of Austrian film, written together with Christian Dewald, was awarded the Austrian Victor Adler State Prize for the History of Social Movements . She was buried at the Vienna Central Cemetery .
