Elisabeth Philipp

Elisabeth Philipp (born June 28, 1912 in Vienna ; † 1988 ibid.) Was an Austrian physicist .

Life & work

Elisabeth Philipp was born in Vienna on June 28, 1912 as the daughter of a wood specialist working in Vienna. After completing general schooling, she attended the Vienna University of Technology in the winter semester of 1931 and left it in the summer semester of 1937. At first, she belonged to the general department and was employed at the subdivision for technical physics from the first state examination . In the February 9, 1937 edition of the Jewish newspaper Die Voice , her departure from Judaism was publicly announced. After she was not allowed to submit a dissertation for racist reasons during the Second World War , she completed her doctorate in April 1946. Before that, she was employed by Siemens & Halske AG in Berlin-Siemensstadt from August 1938, where she worked in the central laboratory of the electroacoustics department . With the relocation of the plant to Vienna in 1943, Philipp returned to her hometown, where she worked until she retired.

She was the second woman to work as a Dr.in techn. in technical physics.

Philipp died in May or June 1988 at the age of 76 in her hometown and was buried on June 7, 1988 at the Vienna Central Cemetery (group 101, row 19, number 19).
