history

Before founding her own publishing house, Elisabeth Sandmann gained experience in the industry at DuMont Buchverlag and Nicolai Verlag . At the start of her own program, she received the support of her husband Friedrich-Karl Sandmann , with whose Zabert Sandmann Verlag the Elisabeth Sandmann Verlag shared rooms, graphic and production organization and the distribution base. Financially, the two publishers were just as independent as in the programming. The first four titles were published in autumn 2004. In the spring of 2005 appeared Women Who Read Are Dangerous. Reading women in painting and photography by Stefan Bollmann, the publisher's first bestseller. Since spring 2013, there has been a cooperation with Insel Verlag , which publishes five of the publisher's titles in paperback every six months. The first paperback of this cooperation was published in March 2013, Why Reading Makes You Happy! by Stefan Bollmann. In 2014 the publisher published a book entitled Elisabeth for the tenth anniversary . The history of the publishing house is also told in a limited edition. At the beginning of 2015, Elisabeth Sandmann Verlag dissolved its cooperation with Zabert Sandmann Verlag and moved into its own premises in Theresienstraße in Munich in March. Uli Deurer's office in Augsburg took over sales on May 1st, and since June 2015 Elisabeth Sandmann Verlag has had its own wife, Ingrid Führer, for press work.

In April 2016 it was announced that the Suhrkamp publishing group had acquired a 51% stake in Sandmann Verlag.

The publisher is a member of the German Book Trade Association .

Publishing program

The entire program of the publishing house is under the motto beautiful books for clever women . It is divided into the sections biography and society , art and lifestyle and the small gift book . Another focus that is not represented in a separate section is the area of ​​Jewish history. Basically, the publisher tries to produce books for women because Elisabeth Sandmann is of the opinion that women have different reading habits than men. It is Sandmann's concern to entertain at a high level. Around six to eight titles appear every year, all of which are designed in-house. Bestsellers were Women Who Read Are Dangerous by Stefan Bollmann and The Ladies with the Green Thumb by Claudia Lanfranconi and Sabine Frank, which was sold over 60,000 times.

Cooperations

Elisabeth Sandmann Verlag works together with Insel Verlag , which has been publishing the publisher's titles in paperback editions since 2013. In addition, Elisabeth Sandmann Verlag has been a cooperation partner of the Royal Collection Trust since 2011 .
