Elisabeth Wilhelmina von Büren († November 17, 1699 in Nottuln ) was the abbess of Nottuln Abbey .

Life

Origin and family

Elisabeth Wilhelmina von Büren grew up as the daughter of Melchior Dietrich von Büren , court lord of Mengede and Herr zu Huckarde, and his wife Sibylla Torck together with three sisters and two brothers, including Wilhelm († 1680, canon in Münster and Worms). She was a niece of her predecessor Anna Sophia Torck .

Career and work

On August 13, October 8 and October 20, 1651, the Nottulner Convent received the episcopal request for the assumption of office by the maid Elisabeth Wilhelmina. On December 17, 1651, she was given a preliminary exam because Margaretha Anna had moved from Galen to Borghorst. On September 24, 1658, the revolt took place.

After the death of Abbess Anna Sophia Torck, the election was initially postponed and then carried out on April 28, 1676 by casting ballots, whereby Elisabeth Wilhelmina only achieved a narrow majority. The official inauguration was on July 14, 1676. She had inherited the house of her predecessor and gave it to the chapter in return for a right of residence. Elisabeth Wilhelmina also improved the foundation of the feast of the Annunciation and remained in office until her death. Her two sisters Hedwig Anna Sibilla (canon in Asbeck) and Sybilla Margaretha (canon in Metelen) and her brother Bernd Diederich (court lord in Mengede) took part in the funeral on November 23, 1699. In the spring of 1700 a dispute developed over who had to pay for the chaplain’s upkeep. One side saw the obligation of the new abbess, the other wanted to hold the heirs of the deceased abbess responsible. An agreement was reached with the result that the heirs had to ensure the supply of the chaplain for a quarter of a year.
