Elisabeth of Poland (1326-1361)
Elisabeth of Poland ( Elżbieta Kazimierzówna in Polish ; * around 1326; † 1361 ) was a Polish princess and by marriage Duchess of Pomerania .
She was the eldest daughter of King Casimir III. the Great of Poland and his first wife Anna of Lithuania . So she belonged to the ruling dynasty of the Piasts . In 1335, in view of the growing tensions between Emperor Ludwig IV and King John of Bohemia , she was brought into play as a possible wife of Ludwig the Roman , a son of Ludwig IV, but this marriage project did not materialize. Ten years later, however, Ludwig the Roman married Elisabeth's younger sister Kunigunde.
On February 24, 1343 King Casimir III signed. and Duke Bogislaw V of Pomerania established a defensive alliance to strengthen Poland's position against the Teutonic Order . This alliance was confirmed by Elizabeth's marriage to Bogislaw V on February 28, 1343. Most of the time Elisabeth lived in Rügenwalde Castle during her marriage . She had two children with her husband:
- Casimir IV (around 1345 - 1377), Duke of Pomerania
- Elisabeth (* around 1345; † 1393), ⚭ 1363 Emperor Charles IV (* 1316; † 1378)
Duchess Elisabeth died in 1361 and was probably buried in the Marienthron monastery near Neustettin .
