Anna of Lithuania
Aldona of Lithuania ( Polish Aldona Anna Giedyminówna , lithuanian Aldona * 1309 , † 26. May 1339 in Krakow ) was a Lithuanian princess and by marriage to Casimir the Great from 1333 Queen of Poland .
Life
Anna was born the daughter of Gediminas , Grand Duke of Lithuania , and Jewna.
She came to Poland in 1325 and after her baptism (April 30th) took the name Anna. On October 16, she married the Polish Crown Prince Casimir, who was King of Poland from 1333. The marriage was a purely political maneuver to strengthen the Polish-Lithuanian alliance against the Teutonic Order . This marriage was already a sign of the Union of Krewo (1385) and the Union of Lublin (1569), which was finally completed in the Polish-Lithuanian confederation .
The prenuptial agreement stipulated that Gediminas would release all 25,000 Polish prisoners. The coalition was not yet very strong and broke up in 1330, but it is said that during Anna's lifetime there were no military clashes between Poles and Lithuanians.
Anna was deeply religious and loved music, she always had her court musicians with her. Casimir, on the other hand, was known for his numerous love affairs, and after Anna's death he married three more times.
Queen Anna died in 1339 and was buried in the Wawel Cathedral in Krakow.

- Elisabeth (approx. 1326/1361), Polish princess, married in 1343 to Duke Bogislaus V. von Pommern-Wolgast-Stolp
