Elisabetta Biavaschi (born June 26, 1973 in Chiavenna ) is a former Italian ski racer . For ten years she was one of the strongest slalom riders in her country. In 2000 and 2001 she became Italian slalom champion . However, their achievements were often overshadowed by the successes of their teammates Deborah Compagnoni and Lara Magoni .

biography

Biavaschi was born the daughter of a factory owner. She started skiing at the age of four, trying to emulate her mother and two sisters. In 1991 she made the leap into the Italian national ski team. For the 1994/95 season she moved up from the C-squad to the A-squad. Although she suffered from chronic back pain after an operation on her groin , which she had to undergo in 1993, she developed into one of the most consistent riders in the extended world elite. Because of her health, however, she only competed in slaloms. In total, she was able to place in the top ten eight times in the course of her career, and another 17 times in the top twenty. She achieved her best result with 3rd place in March 2000 in Bormio .

Between 1996 and 2001 Biavaschi took part in the World Ski Championships three times. In 1996 she was the best Italian in slalom in twelfth place, the following year she was ninth at the World Championships in Sestriere . In her only Olympic participation in 1998 in Nagano , she was eliminated in the first round.

Shortly before the start of the 2002 Winter Olympics , she fell severely during the Åre World Cup giant slalom and broke her thigh on her right leg . She only returned to the World Cup in January 2003, but was never able to continue anywhere near her earlier performance. After the end of the 2003/04 season , in which she remained without a result in the World Cup, Biavaschi ended her sporting career.
