Elise Capitain , also Elise Anschütz and Elise Haase , (* 1820 in Frankfurt am Main ; † June 3, 1895 in Heidelberg ) was a German opera singer ( soprano ).

Life

Capitain, daughter of the craftsman Carl Philipp Capitain (born October 31, 1785 in Frankfurt am Main; † November 18, 1835 ibid) and Katharina Mons (born April 10, 1785 in Oberursel; † May 3, 1837 in Frankfurt am Main) entered the stage in her hometown for the first time on April 26, 1837 as "Pamina" in the Magic Flute and developed into an important dramatic singer. With each new role she unfolded new virtues and what she was still lacking in radical dramatic experiences, replaced her natural talent and that instinct that hits the right place everywhere. In 1846 the artist switched to the dramatic field and was seen as “Marie” in the regiment's daughter and as “Zerlina” in Don Giovanni . She achieved further success as "Rachel" in La Juive , "Leonore" in Fidelio and as the leading actress in Gluck's Alceste and Weber's Euryanthe etc. After working in Frankfurt for almost 25 years, she went to the Stadttheater in Mainz (1861-62 ) and at the Stadttheater in Bremen (1862–64). In 1864 she retired from the stage.

In her first marriage (1845) she was married to the baritone player Alexander Anschütz (father-in-law: Heinrich Anschütz , sister-in-law: Marie Emilie Auguste Koberwein ). In 1858 she married Friedrich Haase in London , but this marriage was soon separated. She set up her residence in Heidelberg, where she died on June 3, 1895.

Her brother was Johann Robert von Capitain , who became an officer in the Ottoman Army.
