The monument zone Elisenstrasse 1-9 and Antoniusstrasse 16 is located in the Koblenz district of Lützel . It stretches along the east side of Elisenstrasse and includes the five buildings on Elisenstrasse with odd numbers and the corner house on Antoniusstrasse with number 16. These six half-timbered houses are rayon buildings, i.e. buildings that were built in the 1880s due to military requirements were subject to the Reichsrayon Law .

location

Elisenstrasse is a short, narrow, straight road that climbs northwards between Antoniusstrasse and An der Ringmauer. The monument zone Elisenstrasse 1-9 and Antoniusstrasse 16 is on the east side of this street. The building Elisenstraße 1 is on the corner of the street An der Ringmauer and the building Antoniusstraße 16 is on the corner of Elisenstraße and Antoniusstraße. About 200 m away from Elisenstraße was the main entrance of the Kaiser Franz fortress , which is still preserved today. The Franz Feste was an important part of the Prussian fortifications of Koblenz .

Structural structure

The six buildings in the monument zone Elisenstrasse 1-9 and Antoniusstrasse 16 are three or four-story eaves - standing residential buildings from the 1880s. Due to their proximity to the fortress of Kaiser Franz, they were built as light half-timbered houses in rayon construction, which could be quickly demolished in the event of war. The framework is a thin structure made of softwood. This type of construction is visible on the facade of the houses with the house numbers 3, 5, 9 and 16 , in the houses with the numbers 1 and 7 this can still be seen on the gable . The framework consists of simple struts and partly storey-high St. Andrew's crosses between and below the windows. The floors of the buildings with the numbers 5, 9 and 16 have profiled heads. In the buildings with house numbers 9 and 16, the rafters of the protruding roofs are visible and profiled.

This ensemble of buildings is the only line of rayon buildings preserved in Koblenz.

Monument protection

The group of buildings on the eastern side of Elisenstraße together with the corner house on Antoinusstraße is a protected cultural monument under the Monument Protection Act (DSchG) and is entered in the list of monuments of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate . The ensemble forms the monument zone Elisenstrasse 1–9 and Antoniusstrasse 16.

Since 2002 the monument zone Elisenstraße 1–9 and Antoniusstraße 16 has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley .
