Eljakim Rubinstein ( Hebrew אליקים רובינשטיין, * 1947 in Tel Aviv ) is an Israeli lawyer and diplomat. He was a member of the Israeli Supreme Court from 2004 to 2017 .

Career

Rubinstein attained the academic title of 1967 Bachelors , 1969 a Bachelor of Laws in 1974 with magna cum laude a Masters at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem . From 1969 to 1983 he was a lecturer in the political science course at Bar-Ilan University . In addition, he was a lawyer in the legal department of the Ministry of Defense of Israel from 1973–1977, Deputy Legal Advisor in the Ministry of Defense from 1976–1977 and bureau chief and advisor at the Israeli Foreign Ministry from 1977–1981 . From 1977 to 1979 he was a member of the Israeli delegation in the negotiations that led to the Israeli-Egyptian peace treaty ( Camp David Agreement ). In 1980 he was Assistant Director-General in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Department for the Normalization of Egyptian-Israeli Relations. From 1981 to 1985 he worked in the Department for Special Tasks of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was awarded the rank of Ambassador in 1982. Rubinstein was Deputy Head of the Israeli Embassy in Washington, DC in 1985/1986

1986–1994 he was State Secretary. In this capacity, he was from 1987 to 1989 head of the committee that coordinated the Israeli cooperation with the United States Congress in the investigation of the Iran-Contra affair ; 1987–1988 head of the inter-ministerial committee on dangerous drugs; 1987–1995 member of the Atomic Energy Commission and head of the forum for the observation of anti-Semitism (1988–1994). In 1991 he was involved in the Israeli preparations for the Madrid conference and a member of the Israeli negotiating delegation at the conference. From 1991 to 1993 he was head of the negotiating delegation for negotiations with Jordanian - Palestinian representatives and from 1993 to 1994 he was head of the Israeli delegation that was involved in the negotiations for the formulation of the Israeli-Jordanian peace treaty .

From 1995 to 1997 he was a judge at the Jerusalem District Court. Rubinstein was then attorney general from 1997 to 2003 and has been a judge at the Israeli Supreme Court since May 2004.
