Elke Brüser (born February 3, 1952 in Bremerhaven ) is a doctor of biology , co-founder of the pharmacritical journal Gute Pillen - Bad Pillen and works as a medical and science journalist. She has been running the blog Flügelschlag und Leisetreter since 2016 .

Live and act

Brüser is the daughter of the confectioner and master baker Ehlert A. Brüser and the commercial clerk Hanna Brüser.

After graduating from high school, Brüser studied biology , linguistics and developmental psychology at the universities of Kiel , Rennes (France) and at the Free University of Berlin (FU Berlin) . Her dissertation in the Department of Biology at the Free University of Berlin on the subject of intradyadic coordination processes: On the development of the early face-to-face interaction between infants and caregivers , a result of the DFG priority program Psychological Ecology .

After her doctorate , which she completed with a doctorate in 1985, and her work as a research assistant in zoology with a focus on human ethology , she chose journalism.

Since 1986 she has been working as a freelance science and medical journalist and author for national media such as Süddeutsche Zeitung , Der Freitag and taz as well as for the Tagesspiegel and the Berliner Zeitung . She has various health guides, including a. for the Stiftung Warentest , published. She is also a co-founder in 2005 and has since been the editor of the independent, non-commercial, pharmacritical drug and health magazine Gute Pillen - Bad Pillen , which is aimed at a lay audience.

Brüser reports on medical topics, drugs and therapies. In her publications she has repeatedly devoted herself to the influence of the pharmaceutical industry and its public relations work on doctors and journalists. As part of her journalistic activities, she published a declaration to prevent conflicts of interest. As a reviewer at medien-doctor, a monitoring initiative of the Technical University of Dortmund , she assessed the quality of medical journalistic articles in the press.

In 2015, Brüser signed the campaign of the Science Press Conference (wpk) Society Needs Science against planned savings measures for science reporting by WDR and ARD .

Since 2016 she has been devoting her blog Flügelschlag und Leisetreter to bird watching and behavior analysis .

In 1996, Brüser joined the Journalistinnenbund , a feminist network of salaried and freelance journalists and authors, and was a volunteer spokesperson for the Berlin regional group for several years.

Brüser is married to the doctor, pharmacist and publicist Wolfgang Becker-Brüser , has two grown children and lives in Berlin.
