Elke Christina Roeder (* 27. November 1966 in Simmern / Hunsrück ) is a German SPD - politician . Since January 9, 2018 she has been Lord Mayor of the large district city of Norderstedt in Schleswig-Holstein .

Life

Roeder was born on November 27, 1966 in Simmern / Hunsrück and grew up in Wentorf near Hamburg . She is a trained lawyer and bank clerk . She completed her law degree at the University of Hanover . She then worked during her legal clerkship in Chemnitz and for the RWE Group in London . She was a board assistant and M&A strategy manager. She was mayor of Bad Pyrmont from 2006 to 2014 . On October 18, 2011, she joined the SPD. She had already received support from the SPD in 2006 when she was running for mayor. In addition, she was chairman of the supervisory board of the Bad Pyrmont municipal utilities. After the mayoral election on May 25, 2014, she was replaced as mayor on November 1, 2014 by Klaus Blome (non-party).

Roeder is also a member of the board of the Schleswig-Holstein Association of Cities .

On November 19, 2014, Elke Christina Roeder was nominated by the SPD Neumünster as a candidate for the mayoral election on May 10, 2015. She lost the election significantly with 34.5% against the non-party incumbent Olaf Tauras (59.8%). There was no runoff election. She works in the city's planning and environmental committee and is a member of the SPD district association Neumünster as an assessor for the local association West.

She ran for election to the German Bundestag 2017 at number 11 on the state list of the SPD Schleswig-Holstein, but did not move into the Bundestag.

The SPD has named Roeder as candidate for the mayoral election in Norderstedt. She succeeded Hans-Joachim Grote , who was Schleswig-Holstein's Minister of the Interior until April 28, 2020. In the first ballot on November 5, 2017, Elke Christina Roeder received 24.17% of the vote. In the runoff election on November 26, 2017, she was elected mayor with 55.33% of the vote.
