Ellen Callmann

Ellen Callmann ( September 12, 1926 - July 12, 2002 ) was an American art historian .

Live and act

Ellen Callmann was the daughter of the lawyer Rudolf Callmann and his wife Maria geb. Hess. From around 1963 she taught art history at Finch College and at the Bard Graduate Center for Studies in the Decorative Arts in New York City . In 1972 she went to Muhlenberg College in Allentown , Pennsylvania .

In 1974 she was (/ 1415 1417 to 1465) with a thesis on the Italian painter Apollonio di Giovanni at the Institute of Fine Arts of New York University doctorate . At Muhlenberg College she was appointed professor and was head of the art department. The focus of her research and publication activities was the Renaissance . In 1984 she retired .

Ellen Callmann was a member of the College Art Association. She has written articles and essays for the Grove Dictionary of Art , the Art Bulletin of the College Art Association, and magazines such as Apollo Magazine , The Burlington Magazine , Antichità Viva, and Bollettino d'arte . She also translated books and articles from French, German and Italian.
