Ellen Trane Nørby (born February 1, 1980 in Herning ) is a Danish politician for the Venstre party and has been a member of the Folketing since 2005 . In the Lars Løkke Rasmussen II government , she was Minister for Children, Education and Equality. In the Lars Løkke Rasmussen III government , she took over the post of Minister of Health.

Life

Youth and Studies

Ellen Trane Nørby grew up in Nørre Nissum in North Jutland, her father is a biologist and was mayor of Lemvig from 1998 to 2006 , her mother an architect . She studied art history in Copenhagen from 1998 and political science as a minor from 1999 to 2001 . She completed her studies in art history in 2005 with a Master of Arts . During her studies she already worked in Christiansborg , the seat of the Danish government and parliament.

Political career

Nørby joined the Venstre party and its youth organization in 1995 and became Vice President of the European Liberal Youth Association in 1999 , an association of liberal youth organizations. From 2002 to 2004 she was president of the association.

In 2004 she was nominated for the European elections as a member of parliament and received 24,380 votes, which was not enough for a member of parliament.

In 2005, Nørby ran in the elections for the Folketing and won a seat in parliament with 5,073 votes. As a result, she was her party's spokesperson for cultural issues. In the elections to the Danish Parliament in 2007 , 12,804 votes were cast for her, her focus in this legislative period was on social issues and gender equality. In 2011 it received 18,059 votes, in the 2015 election 12,012 votes. From 2006 until she was appointed Minister, Nørby was also the spokesperson for new media issues.

On June 28, 2015, Nørby was appointed Minister for Children, Education and Equality.

On November 28, 2016, she took over the office of Minister of Health.

Topics in the media

In autumn 2012, Nørby put a total of 696 inquiries to Uffe Elbæk , the then Minister for Culture, and was henceforth referred to by the tabloid BT as "Spørge-Ellen" ( German "Question Ellen"). In January 2013, it was announced by the tabloid BT that Nørby employees had made changes in Nørby's sense to their Danish Wikipedia article more than thirty times; For her part, Nørby claimed to be the victim of a "hate speech and media campaign".

Private

Nørby is married and has one daughter. In 2004 she wrote a cookbook with the title “Smag på Europe - med honning og chili” (“Taste Europe - with honey and chili”) .
