The Elliot Brothers were an English company focused on making instruments .

The father, William Elliott (* 1780 or 1781 in the parish of St. Andrew, Holborn, London ; † 1853) began a seven-year apprenticeship with compass and instrument maker William Backwell in 1795 and founded his own business around 1800, W. Elliott . He described himself as a mathematical, optical and philosophical instrument maker. Around 1850 he took his sons from his third marriage (with Emma), Frederick Henry Elliott († 1873) and Charles Alfred Elliott († 1877) in the company, which then operated under the name William Elliott and Sons . It received a bronze medal at the world exhibition in 1851 . Charles retired in 1865 and Frederick continued to run the company alone until his death.

Frederick's widow Susan Elliott († March 25, 1880) took Willoughby Smith as a business partner, the company now became the most famous manufacturer of telegraph equipment . At the Paris Electricity Exhibition in 1881 , the company won a gold medal for its precision instruments. 1893 took over Elliott Brothers to formerly of Richard Theiler led operation M W Theiler & Sons in North London. In the mid-1960s, the company employed approximately 35,000 people.
