Tony Dannon

Tony Dannon (born March 24, 1924 in Villa Latina as Antonio D'Annunzio ; † April 12, 2011 in Sterling Heights , Michigan ) was an American jazz musician and arranger . The accordionist also worked as a composer , author and music teacher.

Live and act

Dannon grew up in central Italy; at the age of three he started playing the accordion. In 1935 his family emigrated to the United States. During the Second World War he was a musician in an army band. In 1957, Dannon and his business partner Oliver Petrini founded Modern Accordion Studio in Dearborn music school and shop , selling Italian accordions. He also performed in the Detroit area with his own formations in Italian restaurants and clubs, such as the Lido in St. Clair Shores . For a while he also worked as a musician for the broadcaster WXYZ-TV.

The highlight of his career was the appearance in New York's Carnegie Hall as part of the Accordion Artist Series . Dannon was also active as a composer and arranger; he also wrote two books on jazz arrangements with Art Van Damme (with whom he also appeared together in 1997). He died of dementia at the age of 87 .
