Elly Abeking

Elly Abeking (née Grube, born March 29, 1876 in Berlin ; † May 13, 1945 in Althagen ) was a German painter.

Life

Elly Grube was born in Berlin in 1876 as the daughter of the school director Dr. Otto Grube was born. She received her lessons in the Berlin painting school from Wilhelm Müller-Schönefeld , where she also met her future husband, the illustrator Hermann Abeking , whom she married in 1903. The Abekings lived on Kantstrasse in Berlin-Charlottenburg ; in 1904 they bought Büdnereien 14/15 in Althagen on the Fischland as a summer residence . The daughter Ortrud was born in 1904 and the son Thomas in 1909.

Elly Abeking was a landscape , portrait and interior painter . But she also worked for the press, so she drew and painted portraits of celebrities, mainly for the BZ of Ullstein Verlag . She died shortly after reaching the age of 69 in her Büdnerei in Althagen.

Her children were also artistically active in their professional lives: the daughter Ortrud Abeking (1904–1977) as an actress and painter, the son Thomas Abeking (1909–1986) as a graphic artist and architect.
