Ortrud Abeking (born July 4, 1904 in Berlin , † June 5, 1977 in Torrevieja , Spain ) was a German actress and painter.

Life

Ortrud Abeking was born in Berlin in 1904 as the daughter of the painter couple Hermann and Elly Abeking . She has had a special interest in acting and painting since she was a child. After attending the drama school in Berlin, she was a member of the Volksbühne ensemble , the Theater am Bülowplatz, for several years . Here she worked in various roles in the works of well-known authors.

Parallel to her acting work, she began to occupy herself more intensively with painting around 1925. For this purpose she ran painting and graphic studies in Berlin. From 1904 the family owned Büdnereien 14/15 in Althagen (now part of Ahrenshoop ) on the Fischland as a summer residence . Here the family had a large circle of friends, including George Grosz . She also used her summer stays on the Baltic Sea to paint, for example for portraits and landscape sketches. From 1946 she was a member of the Professional Association of Visual Artists Berlin. From August to October 1951 she stayed in Ahrenshoop for the last time to paint.

Not only Ortrud Abeking came from this family of artists, her brother Thomas (1909–1986) also worked as an architect but mainly as a graphic artist and illustrator.
