Elmon Wright

Elmon Wright (born October 27, 1929 in Kansas City , Missouri ; † 1984 ) was an American rhythm & blues and jazz trumpeter .

Elmon Wright was the son of trumpeter Lammar Wright senior (1907-1973, who played in the orchestra of Cab Calloway ) and brother of Lammar Wright junior (1927-1983), who was also a trumpeter. Elmon Wright began his career in 1945/46 in the orchestra of Roy Eldridge , with which the first recordings for Decca were made. In the following years he was a member of Dizzy Gillespies Big Band (partly with his brother) , and during this time he also took part in recordings by Kenny Hagood , Charlie Parker , Dinah Washington and James Moody . In the early 1950s he played with Illinois Jacquet and Earl Bostic , before working as a freelance musician in New York City, where he accompanied R&B musicians at the Apollo Theater . In the field of jazz he was involved in 47 recording sessions between 1946 and 1963, most recently with Milt Jackson and King Curtis .
