Kenny Hagood
Kenneth Pancho "Kenny" Hagood (* 1926 in Detroit ; † 11. November 1989 ) was an American jazz - singer . He is known for his participation in the record Birth of the Cool by Miles Davis .
Live and act
Kenny Hagood sang at the beginning of his musical career with Benny Carter and from the end of 1947 in the orchestra of Dizzy Gillespie , where he interpreted the bebop track "Ool-ya-koo". In early 1948 he visited Europe with the Dizzy Gillespie Big Band . Since then he has mainly performed as a soloist. Besides Gillespie, his singing style is particularly influenced by Billy Eckstine ; this can be heard on the recording " Darn That Dream " at the Capitol session by Miles Davis in March 1950. Already on the "forerunner" record (which was released much later), the Pre-Birth of the Cool - with the Live recordings from the Royal Roost Club in 1948 - Hagood interpreted this title, as well as Why Do I Love You .
Furthermore, Kenny Hagood made recordings under his own name; with Thelonious Monk he recorded two pieces in July 1948, which should be part of his legendary Blue Note Records recordings at the beginning of his career: " All the Things You Are " and two takes of "I Should Care". After he had disappeared from the scene for a few years, he drew attention to himself in 1967 with four titles in which he was accompanied by the rhythm section of the Jazz Crusaders ; the recordings appeared on Spotlite .
