Elsa Fornero
Elsa Fornero (born May 7, 1948 in San Carlo Canavese , Piedmont ) is an Italian economist , university professor and politician.
Scientific activity
Fornero is Professor of Economics at the University of Turin . Her work focuses on studies on wealth formation, social security systems and pension funds . She is a member of various scientific institutes and advisory boards.
Her numerous publications include the Manuale italiano di microeconomia , which she wrote with Mario Monti , among others .
Political activity
Elsa Fornero was a councilor for the Alleanza per Torino citizens' list in Turin from 1993 to 1998 .
She was appointed Minister for Labor, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities on November 16, 2011, to the Monti government, which was made up of experts , and served until April 28, 2013.
Fornero caused a lot of controversy in the Italian media when she burst into tears on December 4, 2011 at a press conference broadcast live on La7 , announcing the cuts in the pension system.
