Else Schubert-Christaller (née Christaller ; * 1891 in Berneck , † 1982 in Jugenheim an der Bergstrasse ) was a Protestant German author who dealt with the Jewish religion in her works .

Life

Else Christaller was the first child of Helene Christaller , a writer who subsequently became famous, and Erdmann Gottreich Christaller , Protestant pastor and also a writer, was born in Berneck in the Black Forest .

She began to write at a young age and, as a Protestant Christian, became interested in the Jewish religion very early on. She learned Hebrew and made the acquaintance of various religious Jews.

She was married to the mechanical engineer Martin Schubert, with whom she had three children. The family lived in Essen . There she was with the long-time Essen rabbi Dr. Salomon Samuel (Culm 1867 - 1942 Theresienstadt) and his wife Anna became friends. With them she regularly studied the religious writings of Judaism and later published sensitive and insightful books on the subject of the Jewish liturgy and the Aggadic tradition.

She no longer practiced her evangelical faith in later years, but did not convert to Judaism either.
